"December 31st 2023... Last day of the year!!
Time is ticking.. Noon, 6 o' clock, 9 o' clock, 11:59 pm!
Just one more minute for new year. Or is it??" said Ram.
"What do you mean or is it??" Questioned Sonu.
Ram said "To find that out, let's see the revolution pattern of the Earth. The Earth takes three hundred and s--"
"Wait, wait. What is a revolution?" Interrupted Sonu.
Ram said "Revolution is the process of a celestial body or entity moving around another body."
"As I was saying, the Earth takes 365 days, 5 hours, 59 minutes and 16 seconds to revolve around the sun. So midnight isn't when new year comes, that is if you calculate from midnight of Jan 1 of the previous year."
"What do you mean by that?" Asked Sonu.
"If you started counting from Dec 31 2023 6:01 pm, then Jan 1 2024 would be the new year..." Said Ram.
"If we think like that, any day can be a new year!" Said Sonu.
"Yes, absolutely! It just depends on where you start." Said Ram.
"Ohhhh.. Now it's all starting to make sense... But I still have a doubt. Shouldn't new year in all different countries be at the same time? Because midnight here is not midnight in the other country." Said Sonu.
"It really doesn't have to be. As I said, it all depends on where you start. This applies here because all countries are in different locations." Said Ram.
"Oh... Oh!! It's midnight! Happy happy new year!!!"
"Or is it?"
Whatever it is , the entire world is in 2024 now. Happy new year to all :)
Day and night has no correlation to the end to end revolution distance. So we can start year at midnight when calendar rolls to new date as per our country time zone. However the actual revolution from the point zero will take 365.25 days. So if we want to consider a full trip of ours around the Sun then yeah new year happens in early morning of our time zone if we start from midnight of the previous year.. and it will continue for 4 years until the new year falls during the exact midnight!!
